<p>This popular, imposing shrub creates a pyramid of large palmate, evergreen foliage and a continuous crop of creped, pendulous bells in a rich variety of colours from spring through to autumn. Abutilons are especially effective when used with an underplanting of richly coloured summer bedding. Also suitable for growing in pots on the patio.</p> <p>Deriving from a genus of about 150 species of evergreen and deciduous plants, the majority of Abutilons originate in South America. Closely related to Hollyhoclks, Mallows and Hibiscus, the botanical name is actually Arabic for mallow. The common name of Flowering Maple is a reference to the leaf similarity to maple foliage.</p> <p>Height 18-36 inches (46-90 cm). Hardy in the UK, Europe, Japan, Australia and North America USDA Zones 9-10.</p>
