<p>Large, broad leaves with crumpled edges make this endive look a lot like a cos/romaine lettuce. It has a crisper, sweeter heart than lettuce though, if it is kept away from direct light (blanching). Once harvested, retain this sweet heart by tying or wrapping tightly with newspaper, and storing away from direct light.</p><p>Endive is easy to grow and should be grown like lettuce in moisture retaining, well-drained soil. Start seed directly outdoors for best results.</p>
