Cichorium intybus 'Bianca Di Milano'

Zones 2-5

Different varieties are suited to different seeding and transplanting dates, so it’s critical to plant the right variety at the right time. To choose specific planting dates, some growers consult the Farmer’s Almanac and plant after a moonless night in spring, or in late summer or fall when the moon is waning. Transplant at the 3 or 4 leaf stage. Early varieties can be transplanted out in February spaced 30cm (12 in.) but need a really good plastic cloche to protect them from hard frosts. Transplant into a well-worked soil amended with mushroom manure. Radicchio requires a good supply of phosphorus and potassium but will not head and may bolt if there is too much nitrogen available. Overwatering or heat may cause bolting also.
SEEDSPEC: Minimum germination standard: 65%. Days to maturity: from transplanting. Approx. 450 seeds/g. Usual seed life: 3 years
