Rossa di Verona is often called 'Verona Red' and these two very similar varieties of radicchio are almost always sold as the same thing. Here, Rossa di Verona has a bit more red colour to the leaves than the other type. The hearts are large and tight, with a narrow white midrib and veins. To make matters even more complicated, it is sometimes called also 'a palla' which means 'like a ball' because of its shape. Whatever you call these similar types, they are all delicious, beautiful and taste great in salads or lightly cooked.
