Dactylis glomerata

Zones 2-5

This grass tolerates moderate shade, giving it its common name of Orchard grass. It also does well in open fields and is often used for hay and pastures, where it gives a high yield. It can often be found sold in small containers for indoor cats to nibble on. It has a very distinctive 'tufted' flowerhead and long, strappy leaves (20-50cm). Overall height is variable, 20-120cm.
