(Family: Onagraceae) This perennial forms a bush 4ft (1.2m) high and 3ft (1m) wide. The leaves are lance-shaped and mid-green, and in summer it produces loose racaemes of tubular pink and white flowers. The whole bush looks like it is covered with tiny butterflies, and forms a very attractive, natural-looking area.

This perennial may be short-lived, but it produces lots of seeds. Sow them in autumn or spring, or propagate by soft wood or semi-ripe cuttings in summer. It is fully hardy, and prefers an open situation in full sun with well-drained soil, such as a meadow or lawn edge.
