Pennisetum has soft, greenish-white heads covered by long soft cream hairs. Grows to 24in (60cm) tall. Hardy perennial, flowers July - October. Setaria has attractive dark seed heads and is a half-hardy annual. It grows to 60in (150cm) tall, and flowers July - October. Stipa has masses of soft, feathery plumes that dance in the breeze. A hardy perennial, it flowers July - October and grows 36in (90cm) tall. Melica has stunning purple-red spires from July to October. It only grows 6 inches tall (15cm) so position at the front of the border or in a container for best effect. This last grass is a half-hardy annual.
