The unusual speckling of these mild, tender, thick but soft leaves will add visual interest to any salad. This heirloom variety originated from the Mennonites who brought it with them to America from Germany and Holland over 200 years ago. Rarely bitter, quick maturing, butterhead types are also known as Boston or Bib lettuce. Works well in containers. Plant early spring or late summer (cool season crop).
