<p>(Family Magnoliaceae) This plant grows as as an arching shrub or a wide-spreading tree. It is deciduous and grows to 50ft (15m) tall and 30ft(12m) wide. The late spring flowers are white, cup-shaped and fragrant, with dark red anthers, and appear above the oval dark green leaves.</p><p>Grow it in sun or partial shade in a sheltered spot. It likes fertile well-drained soil, and will grow in chalky conditions if there is some humous. Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings in summer or by seed in autumn.</p>
