Malcomia maritima 'Virginia Mixed'

Zones 2-5

A bright and colourful, low-growing plant that is not actually a stock but it smells heavenly, like the stocks. Shades of pink, white and red with grey-green leaves makes a good spring bulb cover and blooms in 6 weeks from seed, 20-25cm (8-10 in) high. Ideal as drifts in borders or near the front of the bed, an infallible standby in the garden!.

Sow directly outside after danger of frost or start indoors 2-3 weeks before setting out. Cover very lightly. Germinates in 7-14 days. Keep soil moist but not wet. Excellent for cool weather, not hot areas. Sow every 2-3 weeks. Approx. 2000 seeds/g.

Malcomia is named in honor of William Malcom, an English horticulturist. It originally comes from the Mediterranean region, and has been grown in North American and English gardens for centuries,
