<p>A native of Mexico and South America and introduced into Europe in the 17th Century. There are records of these gherkins being popular in Victorian green and stove houses. Best grown in a greenhouse or conservatory, but may be grown up a south facing wall. Plants make unusual climbers and the rounded, green striped fruit are ideal for pickling whole or sliced, or used fresh in salads.</p>
