<p>This unusual annual has apple-green, bell-like whorls (the calyx) surrounding tiny white to pale pink flowers on long stems up to 3 feet tall. They are used in many floral arrangements, and can be dried as well. The leaves are also pale green, oval with a deeply scalloped edge, about 6cm long. It flowers in late summer.</p><p>Direct-seed mid-May through mid-June in full sun. If starting indoors: pre-chill, press into growing medium. Alternate temperatures: day 30C (85F), night 10;C (50F). Needs light to germinate in 12-21 days. Harvest in 16 weeks. Space 30cm (1 ft.) apart. Height to 75cm (30 in.). Plant in peat pots as this taprooted annual does not transplant easily. Approx. 100 seeds/g.</p><p>Moluccella is named for the Island of Molucca to the west of New Guinea where these plants were supposed to have been first found. They also originate from Caucasus, Turkey, Syria and Iraq. The common name refers to the green colour of the calyx.</p>
