<p>The handsome plants produce a mass of mauve-purple blooms, even in their first year from an early sowing. They also have uniquely scented foliage. Loved by butterflies and bees, it is the oil of bergamot that gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive flavour. Height 3ft (90cm); spread 18in (45cm).</p><p>Germinates in 21 days at 16C (60F). Sow indoors mid-February or outdoors spring or fall. Susceptible to powdery mildew so maintain air circulation by spacing at least 38cm (15 in) apart. Approx 1800 seeds/g.</p><p>This is the plant used for flavouring in Earl Grey Tea.</p>
