The petals are lightly ruffled, with scalloped edges. It blooms continuously from summer to mid autumn.</p><p>Poppies are hardy and prefer little or no shade and deep, moist, well-drained soil. Sow seed in spring or autumn.</p><p>The common name is thought to come from the Saxon 'popig', meaning 'sleep', a reference to the opium poppy.</p>
