{Family Asteraceae} Canada Goldenrod is a perennial herb with tall, leafy stems. The flowers are a striking pyramid-shaped plume of yellow which bloom from July to September. As a garden ornamental, Canada Goldenrod is adaptable to dry or moist areas. S. canadensis is a strong-growing species, which can reach 5 feet in height. All Goldenrod species attract butterflies.

Solidago is fully frost hardy and grows well in sun or shade in any fertile, well-drained soil. It will self-seed if you leave the heads to dry naturally, or the clumps can be divided in spring or fall. Site it carefully, as it is a robust growing perennial that may overwhelm smaller, slower-growing neighbours.

It comes from North America, but has become naturalised in Europe. Many people confuse Goldenrod with ragweed (Ambrosia sp.), which blooms at the same time and is responsible for causing hayfever.
