Sow thinly, 13mm (1/2in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart, in well-drained, fertile soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Water grond regularly, especially in dry periods and keep ground free of weeds. Germination usually takes around 21 days. When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 30cm (12in) apart. Can also be sown indoors during April, individuallly in 7.5cm (3in) pots of good seed compost. Place in a propagator or warm place, and keep at a constant temperature of between 20-25C (6877F) until after germination. When well grown, gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions before planting out after all risk of frost.
